Why were the World Trade towers attacked on 9/11/01?

Wasn't this attack done to change US support of Israel? Wasn't it the attackers intention to instill fear against continued support of the current nation of Israel? And other terror attacks were also planned for the Pentagon area and in other key posts in the USA. Did al- Quaeda claim responsibility for the attacks under the leadership of Osama Bin Laden?
