Have universities become a joke these days?

i agree...but this mentality is because money has more influence than ever, and people do whatever they think they can to get it. no one wants to become an intellectual or philosopher because there's no money involved (when's the last time you heard of a rich philosopher? never.)....so in turn, our intellects suffer the consequences. so it goes.
