Why European Spice Trade was with Asia?

i mean why they take the long route "around africa" to trade with asia and didn't colonize the middle of africa , which is the same geographic region like indonesia and india and can easily plant spice there and bring it to europe cheaply , and also there were no major power there which can threat any european nation?!!!
